I am inspired by what is visual. As a former Industrial designer, Shape, Form, Materials and Color create desire. Water plays a big part in my inspiration in composition. I gravitate toward vessels or objects that hold water. In my landscapes and in my life, bodies of water have always been near. Coastlines, lakes, intercoastals, moors, all inspire creativity. The sun, and the atmosphere on the Cape is unique, as you have sky, water, sand, that creates reflective light. That light throws color into the highlights, low lights, shade and reflective light on a surface. Water is also can evoke a sense of wellness, calm, serenity, and is reflective. Working with a palette knife maintains my ability to stay loose, keep my colors pure, and allows me to layer unmuddied color notes. I begin my painting with masses of color, seeing how each color must relate. As I complete my painting, my intention is that the viewer will see what inspired me about the composition and feel the atmophere in the moment, the beauty in the light.
