ARTIST STATEMENT:
My work is rooted in the traditions of quilting, craft, and textile-making, and I use them to explore memories, identity, activism, community, and the complicated spaces between the personal and the political. I am drawn to the inherent tension of quilting being both intimate and public, domestic labor and fine art, and both a solitary practice and one that has historically brought people together. I work primarily with fabric, thread, found textiles, photographs, and words. I am interested in what happens when familiar quilting techniques are stripped down, rearranged, or paired with unexpected materials and ideas. My quilts can be playful, irreverent, political, and deeply personal, focusing on the stories we carry and the things we choose to preserve. I believe that every stitch is a small act of connection. In a world that can feel increasingly fractured, I want to make work that insists on connection, interdependence, and the possibility of repair.
