ARTIST STATEMENT:

Carmen da Silva has always enjoys connecting to new people and places through the lens of a camera. Over the years she has expanded her curiosities to collect and combine memories and elements of these travels into print, graphic design and mixed media collage.

I was born in the early 80s to a mother who DIY'd every decorative element of our home. Her love of classic films, quilting, upcycling and decoupage have definitely influenced my passions for black and white photography, experimental collage and graphic design. While I enjoyed a carefree childhood running barefoot through the Willamette Valley, once I traveled for the first time and stared up at the Eiffel Tower, I was hooked. My eyes were no longer just for passive observation, they became the shutter of my organic camera. Seeing new corners and colors of the world gave me an insatiable appetite for more and I found that I most connected to the new people I met and places I traveled through the lens of a camera. Over the last several decades I have expanded my curiosities to collect and combine memories and elements of my travels beyond photography into print, graphic design, and collage.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Heat MacFarland creates urban, energetic, playful brain babies that spark possibility. Drawing from life, then scribbling outside the lines.
